Here are some suggestions for easing your thirst for caffeine before that 8:00 AM sharp interview.
Meli Cafe and Juice Bar (formerly Custom House Tavern) is connected to the Hotel Blake at 500 S. Dearborn street. I personally chose a very simple breakfast here: potatoes, eggs, and toast – all for a reasonable price. But, the menu is extensive and service is everything you’d expect at a downtown semi-formal diner. Just remember to leave your napkin folded neatly on your lap. Serving breakfast and lunch until 3:00 PM, Meli Cafe is a great alternative to standing in line for 45 minutes at the Starbucks around the corner.
Cafecito is a Cuban-style sandwich shop with free wireless and plenty of table space. Come here to 26 E Congress Pkwy, Chicago, IL for an Americano, Cuban coffee, or an intricately spiced latte. As far as sandwiches go, the Cubano, Jardin, and Ropa Vieja are must-tries for first timers at Cafecito.
Cuidado: Cafecito is a popular South Loop destination and will be packed most days during lunch time – I suggest calling ahead.
Intelligensia – Millenium Park
The name says it all. Daily roasts include Pietã of Brazil and Ethiopia – Kurini, among an ever changing variety. Your baristas here are expert, and will sport the latest fashion trend and hip mustache. Intelligensia is a short trek from Congress Pkwy, located at 53 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL near the Art Institute. Their professionalism, high-quality coffee and relaxed vibe are well worth the walk.
