Audio Arts + Acoustics made its presence felt at the 2nd Pan American/Iberian Meeting on Acoustics in Cancun, Mexico. Two research presentations brought together AA+A faculty, students, and alumni at a prestigious international event that very few undergraduate students ever attend, let alone present:
“A comparative study of traffic noise modeling software” and “Perception and acoustical analysis of traditionally orchestrated musical structures versus nontraditional counterparts.”
The first study brought together AA+A faculty (Dominique Chéenne), students (Robin Lin), and alumni (Jeffrey Russert & Daniel Walsh) to address one of the conference’s hot topics: reliability and validity of current noise measurement methods.
The second study was co-authored by UCLA’s Roger A. Kendall, a world authority on musical timbre, and our Chairman, Pantelis Vassilakis, whose work on sensory consonance/dissonance is widely recognized.
In addition to their relevance, timeliness, and scope, both studies exemplify collaborative research at its best: deep and meaningful exchange of ideas using a broad spectrum of expertise in the service of knowledge and discovery. Even if you are not that familiar with who we are and what we do here at AA+A, if research, collaboration, and cutting-edge are terms you value, then you know you love us!
