When it comes to startups and entrepreneurs coming out of local Chicago schools, Columbia College Chicago isn’t always the first to come to mind. Surrounded by renowned business schools such as DePaul, UChicago and Northwestern, the small art school is most often overlooked. While they may not be making a splash in the Chicago tech or business pool, this school is expanding and creating forward-thinking artists and entrepreneurs.
With an eclectic range of students and majors, such as Arts Management and Comedy Writing, Columbia is changing the way we define entrepreneurs and startups. Departments such as the Portfolio Center offer the Freelancing Tool Kit Series, tWork, Resume Labs and more, so the school is producing more and more notable students and alumni. Whether it’s production companies, fashion lines, photography or music production, the art scene in Chicago is being driven by Columbia students and alum.
