Doug Jones, Professor of Acoustics Emeritus and co-founder of the Audio Arts & Acoustics department at Columbia College Chicago, has been working hard over the past ~ 2 years to facilitate wider dissemination of the late Richard Heyser’s innovative contributions to professional audio, in collaboration with the College’s Archives & Special Collections department.
The fruits of this important and intensive work are now becoming available online.
We are excited to be announcing Doug Jones’s official launch of the Heyser Archives Online on Tuesday, May 5th, 7:30pm, in a presentation co-sponsored by Columbia College Chicago’s School of Media Arts and the Chicago Regional Chapter of the Audio Engineering Society . What: “Richard Heyser – 28 Years Later” – presented by Doug Jones

Where: Shure Incorporated, 5800 W. Touhy Ave, Niles, IL 60714
Directions: When arriving by car, approach from the east by heading west on Touhy, then turn right into the parking lot just east of the Shure building, which is on the corner of Touhy and Lehigh. DO NOT turn left into parking lot from Touhy heading east, as this is illegal and you may get a traffic ticket. Enter at the employee entrance on the east side of the building and register at the guard desk. A valid driver’s license must be presented at the guard desk when registering.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:
Richard Heyser (1931-1987) was an innovative scientist and inventor whose contributions to professional audio are significant.  He is one of the giants upon whose shoulders we stand. This presentation will examine Heyser’s contributions and introduce the AES community to the Heyser Archives located at Columbia College Chicago and gradually becoming available online at http://about.colum.edu/archives/collections/manuscripts/richard-heyser.php

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Doug Jones is Professor of Acoustics Emeritus and the co-founder of the Audio Arts and Acoustics department at Columbia College Chicago.    He has worked in acoustics on 6 continents on projects ranging from radio stations in developing countries to internationally recognized recording studios. He is still waiting for that hot gig in Antarctica! Since retiring from the College in 2013, Doug has been working on the Heyser archives at Columbia College, to identify un-published Heyser manuscripts and make them available for research.
Doug is the author of Sound of Worship (Taylor and Francis 2010) a book which examines the relationship between theology and the acoustics of worship spaces. In addition Doug is a contributing author to the Handbook for Sound Engineers (Glen Ballou editor, Focal Press).  Doug’s contributions have appeared in the third and fourth editions and the soon to be published fifth edition will contain his chapters on Small Room Acoustics, Noise Control, Magnetic Recording, Loudspeaker Theory (co-authored with Tom Danley) and Acoustics of Worship Spaces. He is also a studio musician, engineer and producer with numerous album credits. He performs regularly with a number of bands in the Chicago area, as well as weekly gigs playing Irish folk music.
Doug is currently employed at Danley Sound Labs where he is responsible for Danley University, the education arm of DSL, as well as product development and technical support.  Doug is a member of the AES and the ASA.
