Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago alums Keyierra Collins ’16 and Brianna Alexis Heath ’17, both graduates of the Dance Center’s BA Program in Dance, will present SET FREE, a program of collaborative site-specific exploration and movement research, on Sunday, June 30, at 7 PM on the tennis court of Sherman Park, located at 1301 W. 52nd St. in Chicago’s New City neighborhood. The event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.
SET FREE is the culminating performance series for artists working within SET composition and FREE improvisation. Over time, the structure has increased awareness and appreciation for each individual’s creative process and provided a space for emerging and experienced makers to weave their studio and performance practices together in developing this work.
Collins and Heath are part of Project Tool, a group of independent collaborators across multiple art mediums who indulge in the learning process of building sprung wood dance floors.
Onye Ozuzu, former chair of the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, acts as Project Tool’s artistic director. This project stems from her fascination with the inter-relationships between body, task, and tool. For more information, click here.
The June 30 event is presented by Catalyst Movmnt, a Chicago-based company that curates shows and spaces for movement artists of color to present their work.
