Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago alumni are among the artists highlighted in the Chicago Tribune‘s “Top 10 for Dance This Fall” feature published September 6, 2019. The Tribune‘s dance critic, Columbia College alum Lauren Warnecke ’03, predicts that “2019 will be a landmark to remember in the Chicago dance scene” and says that “the energy in the air seems to be one of optimism for the potential that a fresh vision can bestow.” Adds Warnecke, a graduate of the Dance Center’s BA Program in Dance: “The fall dance line-up is ready to take off, with a number of companies and venues presenting deeply relevant and personal works that explore themes ranging from cultural heritage and legacy to our relationships with each other and the land beneath us.” Among the artists whose upcoming productions meriting special attention, Warnecke highlights:
Columbia College alums J’Sun Howard ’19, Jordan Reinwald ’12, and Margi Cole ’90, all graduates of the Dance Center’s Dance BA program, who will appear as part of the annual Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival September 20 through 28 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, located at 1016 N. Dearborn in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. (Cole is also a Dance Center faculty member.) “Specifically curated for variety and range, the 10th anniversary of this grassroots festival boasts a well-rounded roster of jazz, contemporary, modern, aerial dance and hip-hop groups,” says Warnecke.
Columbia College alum Erin Kilmurray ’08, a graduate of the Dance Center’s Dance BA program, and former Dance Center student Precious Jennings, a teacher at the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department, who will both appear as part of the outdoor Hunters Moon Dance Happening October 12 at Tryon Farm, located at 1500 Tryon Road in Michigan City, Indiana.
Giordano Dance Chicago, led by former Dance Center faculty member Nan Giordano, will perform October 25 and 26 at the Harris Theatre for Music and Dance, located at 205 E. Randolph in downtown Chicago.
