Jessica Braun Gervais
Jessica is a Columbia College Chicago journalism alumna with seven years of storytelling and reporting experience in fitness, healthcare and wellness as a content writer. She is currently a freelance writer and founder of Listen Live and Local, a Chicago-based webzine covering the Chicago music scene through live reviews, band profiles, features and Q&As.

Ashley Hobbs
Ashley is a writer, podcast producer, and detail-oriented storyteller who strives to clear the way for a colorful riot of storytelling both written and in the audio space, amplifying the stories that make us feel something big. Formerly a podcast producer at Essence Magazine, she’s produced seven podcasts, published short stories and digital articles, and has been webby nominated twice.

Jhames Holley Jr.
After decades of writing poems, essays, sermons, articles, advertising slogans and scripts, Jhames, inspired by his mother’s book,, wrote his first novel which extended into a series of books chronicling the peaks and valleys of growing up. In 2020, he published, The Sun of Abraham: Volume One – The Good Life, a book that covers many aspects of boyhood and the black family.

Norman Parish
Norman has been a reporter and editor for over three decades in newsrooms in seven states. He is currently the Director of Recruitment for Report for America, a national service program that places talented emerging journalists in local news rooms to report on under-covered topics and communities.

Kadeem Roper
Kadeem is a copywriter at Chicago advertising agency Leo Burnett, where he writes for the Nintendo, Campbell’s, Allstate and V8 accounts. Kadeem also writes and performs stand-up comedy and has self-published a Collection of short stories, poems, musings, one-offs, and things he’d never admit to his mother.

Navigating Production 101 w/ Camera Ambassador – Wednesday, February 10th 2021

Presented by Founder and Owner of Camera Ambassador/ Executive Director Midwest Film Festival, Erica Duffy joins us for a premiere Career Expo Week event for students and alumni breaking into the production industry. This one-hour session will cover the basicsof navigating the production industry, including roles and hierarchy on set, call sheets (how they can lead to more work and their importance for finances and freelance), basic lingo, networking, film festivals and utilizing resources such as casting agents and rental houses. The session will include a Q&A as well as provide templates and additional resources.

Erica Duffy

Since moving to Chicago seven years ago, entrepreneur and production powerhouse, Erica Duffy has founded and grown Camera Ambassador. This camera, grip, and electric rental house is not only known for being one of the most reliable and artist-friendly houses but also the only female-owned and operated location in the country. After purchasing and renovating a 6,000sq ft industrial loft, it now features a fully equipped recording studio, state-of-the-art equipment prep bays, an event space, and co-working offices. When a bucket list script or crew lands in her lap she always loves getting on-set to produce. One of her recent projects includes an episodic tv show for Cowboy Cerrone while training to fight Connor McGregor in early 2020. Erica’s newest endeavor is serving as the executive director of The Midwest Film Festival. She is passionate about building relationships and fostering community and feels fortunate to have many avenues to accomplish this.
