Congratulations to the alumni and faculty of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department and the Columbia College Chicago Music Department who have been nominated for 2018 Joseph Jefferson Awards, Chicago’s top theatre award. The list of nominees for this year’s “Equity Jeff Awards,” which honor excellence in Chicago-area theatres operating under Actors’ Equity contracts during the 2017-2018 theatre season, includes:
Performer in a Principal Role–Musical: alumna Hannah Starr ’14, a graduate of the Acting BA program, for her performance as “Medium Alison” in Fun Home at Victory Gardens Theatre;
Director of a Play–Large Theatre: Theatre Department faculty member Vanessa Stalling for The Wolves at Goodman Theatre;
Music Direction: Jermaine Hill, a faculty member in the Theatre Department’s Musical Theatre program, for Memphis at Porchlight Music Theatre;
Sound Design–Midsize Theatre: alumnus Jeffrey Levin ’10, a graduate of the Music Department‘s BA Program in Music with a Composition Concentration, nominated twice, for Machinal at the Greenhouse Theatre Center and Welcome to Jesus at the American Theater Company.
Ensemble–Musical or Revue: Buddy–The Buddy Holly Story at American Blues Theater — the ensemble included alums Ann Delaney ’14, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, and Lauren Vogel ’16, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre;
Ensemble–Musical or Revue: Hair at Mercury Theater Chicago — the cast included alum Mallory Maedke ’14, a graduate of the Musical Theatre Performance BFA program.
