Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alums are in the cast and production team of the rock musical Passing Strange, running June 9 through July 30 at Theo Ubique Theatre, which is located at 721 Howard in the Chicago suburb of Evanston. For tickets, click here.
Columbia College alums Josiah Croegaert ’21, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre Design and Technology, and Matthew R. Chase ’20, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Technical Theatre program, and are the show’s production electrician and production manager respectively. Chase is also Theo Ubique’s director of production.
This Tony Award-winning musical by singer-songwriter and performance artist Stew takes viewers on a journey across boundaries of place, identity, and theatrical convention. Passing Strange concerns a young bohemian who charts a course for “the real” through sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. Loaded with soulful lyrics and overflowing with passion, the story takes the audience from Black middle-class America to Amsterdam, Berlin, and beyond on a journey towards personal and artistic authenticity.
