Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alums are in the cast and production team of the rock musical Passing Strange, running June 9 through July 30 at Theo Ubique Theatre, which is located at 721 Howard in the Chicago suburb of Evanston. For tickets, click here.
The show’s cast includes Columbia College alums Cynthia Hindmon ‘21, both
andColumbia College alums Josiah Croegaert ’21, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre Design and Technology, and Matthew R. Chase ’20, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Technical Theatre program, and are the show’s production electrician and production manager respectively. Chase is also Theo Ubique’s director of production.
This Tony Award-winning musical by singer-songwriter and performance artist Stew takes viewers on a journey across boundaries of place, identity, and theatrical convention. Passing Strange concerns a young bohemian who charts a course for “the real” through sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. Loaded with soulful lyrics and overflowing with passion, the story takes the audience from Black middle-class America to Amsterdam, Berlin, and beyond on a journey towards personal and artistic authenticity.
