Columbia College Chicago Theatre Dept. Alums Bring ‘School of Rock’ to Paramount Theatre April 12-June 4

Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alums are in the cast and creative team of the Chicago-area professional premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit Broadway musical School of Rock, running April 10 through June 4 at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois. For tickets, click here.

The show’s cast includes Columbia College alums Dakota Hughes ’15, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, and Em Modaff ’14, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting. As previously reported in this blog, Modaff starred in Paramount’s 2022 production of the musical Fun Home. And, as previously reported in this blog, Hughes recently won a 2023 Joseph Jefferson Award – Chicago’s top theatre award – for their performance in Hell in a Handbag Productions’ staging of Frankenstreisand.

School of Rock‘s production team includes Columbia College alum Isaiah Silvia-Chandley ’18, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, as choreographer; Columbia College alum Darren Patin ’17, a graduate of the Musical Theatre Performance BFA program, as associate director; former Columbia College Theatre Department student and staff accompanist Kory Danielson as music director; and former Columbia College Theatre Department faculty member Mike Tutaj as projection designer. Paramount’s artistic director, veteran Broadway performer Jim Corti, is a former Musical Theatre Dance instructor in the Columbia College Theatre Department’s Musical Theatre Program.

Based on the hit 2003 film of the same name, School of Rock follows a failed wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, he turns a class of straight-A students into a mind-blowing rock band.
