Columbia College Chicago Theatre Dept. Alum Featured in Music Theatre Works’ ‘Avenue Q’

Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Whitney Dottery ’15, a graduate of the Columbia College Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre, is featured in Music Theatre Works’ production of the musical Avenue Q, running through April 2 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, located at 9501 Skokie Blvd. in the Chicago suburb of Skokie.

Whitney Dottery

Dottery plays former child star Gary Coleman, the landlord of a New York City tenement apartment where the irreverent puppet musical takes place. “Dottery, who has appeared on most every stage in the Chicagoland area, plays Gary Coleman. For some unknown reason, this character is traditionally cast as a young woman, and Whitney certainly wraps their head around what makes the former child tick. They are, additionally, a wonderful vocalist and comic actor,” wrote reviewer Colin Douglas on the Chicago Theatre Review website.

Ashley Keys

The show’s assistant director is Columbia College alum Ashley Keys ’22, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing program.
