Congratulations to Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Kerry Reid ’87, editor of theatre and dance coverage for the Chicago Reader. She won two 2020 Peter Lisagor Awards for her arts journalism in the Reader. The awards were announced May 14, 2021, in an online ceremony. The Peter Lisagor Awards honor excellence in print, broadcast, and online journalism in lllinois and Northwest Indiana. In the Online category, Reid was honored for Best Theatre Coverage for her article titled: “The founder of Pride Films and Plays is gone. What happened? What’s next?” And in the Non-Daily Newspaper category, Reid was cited as the editor of dance critic Irene Hsiao’s article “Dancing alone together,” which won for Best Arts Reporting and Criticism.
The award is named in honor of the late Peter Lisagor, the Chicago Daily News’ Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976, who was one of the nation’s most respected and well-known journalists. The awards were established in 1977 by the Headline Club, the Chicago area’s independent chapter of the national Society of Professional Journalists, to inspire Chicago-area journalists to follow Lisagor’s outstanding example and to recognize truly superior contributions to journalism.
