Firebrand Theatre, a new company co-founded by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Harmony France, presents P!nk: Sung by Her!, a tribute to celebrated music artist P!nk featuring some of Chicago’s best female talent. The concert takes place Memorial Day Monday, May 30, at 7:30 PM at the Underground Lounge, 952 W. Newport, in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

The lineup of performers includes France and her fellow Columbia College alum, singer-songwriter Jess Godwin (BA ’05), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting.

Proceeds from P!nk: Sung by Her! will support Firebrand Theatre, Chicago’s first musical theatre committed to employing and empowering women by expanding opportunities on and off the stage.

“When we had the idea to start Firebrand Theatre, I did an online search for musical theatre companies with like-minded missions,” says France. “I found nothing. That brought it home to me how crucial it is that we launch this company. There is a void in our industry; there are more actresses than actors in this business, yet there are fewer roles for women. There are statistically more women than men in our audiences–and yet, most musicals are directed by men, cast with mostly men, with stories that are about men. Not only do we feel a moral obligation to illuminate female artists in roles that empower them, but it also makes sense for our business to tailor to our largest demographic.”
