Fall semester has really been flying by at an astronomical speed. As I look back over the last few months, I have learned so many new ways of making art, read hundreds of pages, and written my fair share of papers. I almost can’t believe all of that has happened and in such a condensed amount of time. I have never been forced to maintain so much focus, but that’s what’s necessary in order to be truly successful in this program. The other component that is really important in being successful and happy while in grad school is a great support team and good energy. And if you’re lucky, like me, that support team will be the people taking the ride with you.

My cohort in the Interdisciplinary Arts program are extraordinary people and it has truly been a pleasure to learn with them and from them. We are composed of people from many different backgrounds, experiences, and practices. This makes for excellent collaboration, interesting conversations, and trying lots of new food. Having these people by my side makes the road ahead a little less daunting.

A major part of this program is growing as an individual and artist and truly discovering who you are and what makes you originally authentic. In the process of growing and learning, it is best to surround yourself with people that nurture, understand, and respect that process. The art of growing and crafting ones self works best when surrounded by good, clean energy and light. That is true for the people you surround yourself with, the food you eat, and your thoughts and actions.

These are all things I learned to apply to my life recently…and mostly out of necessity. Its not always easy and I don’t always stay on track. If you have the right people around, it’s usually easier to cope and keep it moving.  But, not matter what happens, always keep it moving!
