What to Expect From the Summer Semester

Summer Semester

Summer Semester

It is official–I can now be considered a second year student in the Dance Movement Therapy & Counseling program!  So what all does that entail? This summer, I will continue in the program learning about group dynamics, how to write a literature review, and of course, participating in a clinical practicum.Group Dynamics:
We have the opportunity to lead groups with each other.  We can offer feedback and learn form one another.  Also, we begin to probe further into methods and techniques that may be used in a group therapy setting.  Throughout the course of this class we identify how individuals in a group can help to heal one another.

Literature Review:
We begin to research as well as solidify our thesis topic.  We also learn the mechanics behind creating a literature review.  The final class culminates in a completed literature review.

Ethics:
This class gives us, as students, the opportunity to further understand our ethical responsibilities as therapists.  We discuss different methods of documenting and assessing clients.  This class is also combined with our Supervision class.  Supervision is an opportunity to discuss different experiences had on site at practicum, as well as gain support from others.  This class also gives us an opportunity to identify goals for ourselves as therapists.

Practicum:
Last but not least, I will be completing my practicum.  During this stage, I will be learning how to apply everything I have learned so far in a clinical setting.  This will give me an opportunity to apply methods and techniques as I develop as a dance movement therapist.   Our practicum in turn prepares us for our internship.
