Yes, it is! We’ve all got our resolutions and are looking forward to this year. I’ve got a lot on my plate: finishing up my thesis; teaching; completing my final semester of course work (ever, probably); putting together this year’s issue of Columbia Poetry Review with my fellow editors and editorial board; traveling to Boston for AWP; (possibly) interviewing for teaching positions; releasing my third book, The Diegesis, on Gold Wake Press in February; (possibly) moving; graduating; turning 32; teaching my son stuff; doing cool stuff with Em; petting my dog; and on and on. (Now that I’m writing this, I feel like I forgot stuff.)

Though I have a lot to look forward to, I had a great 2012 and capped off the year with some long-awaited reading:

His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass) – Phillip Pulman

Robinson Alone – Kathleen Rooney

Bossy Pants – Tina Fey

Flies – Michael Dickman

The Youngest Butcher in Illinois – Robert Ostrom

I also started and finished Sherlock. OMG! This makes me want to go back and read all the old stories and novels.

Currently, I’m working on some job applications over in Washington State and Vancouver, BC, as well as some screenwriting and submission stuff. My focus right now, though, is prepping for my class this spring. I’m looking forward to this semester—a few of my students from last semester are taking this class, too! I may actually be done with all my prep work early for a change, which will give me time to focus on other things like writing, submitting, and other works.

Tonight, I’ll be finishing season 2 of Portlandia with Em, and tomorrow me and my buddy Ryan Spooner will watch Django Unchained.

I’ll be working during J-Term, so I’ll be on campus a bunch this month. I’m actually looking forward to it. I like the ride in and having a “space” to focus on work.
