International Womens Day!

Hello everyone!

March 8 was International Women’s Day, and to commemorate women film composers, Thomas Mikusz has created a wonderful Spotify playlist featuring female composers.

On another note, next week is the last week with Eimear Noone and Craig Stuart Garfinkle, composers of World of Warcraft. They’ve been working with us for the past six weeks on a feature project and have been extremely helpful. We’ve learned everything from conducting, orchestration, the business of the industry, recording sessions and how to compose outside of our comfort zones.

The number one thing I learned during my time with Eimear and Craig is that pushing the boundaries is rewarding, at least in an educational atmosphere. Attempting to push boundaries with a director can sometimes be dicey, so it’s better to try new things in a safe environment. The most exciting part of our last assignment is that we are writing a 3–6 minute cue for a game, more specifically, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor. We’ve all been told to research the game, and choose what kind of music we want to create based off of the art for the game. It’s going to be a fantastic last day with them!

So much has happened within the past few weeks. Nico Gutierrez and myself have been composing a waltz/tango piece for a ballroom scene in the feature film Bongee Bear and the Kingdom of Rhythm, while I’ve been working on the teaser trailer for the feature film and the songs. The process for this animated musical has been very different from what I’m used to so far. I’m currently writing all of the songs as well as any dance music within the film so that the animators can animate to my music rather than having me write music to the dance scenes. It will, however, go back to the process that I am used to when it comes to actually scoring the film, which is getting the scenes and scoring them after they are animated.

Until next time! Let me know how you all enjoy the playlist!
