It Will All Be Over Soon
So I just finished installing my thesis project, I just have one final paper to turn in and I’ll be done with my MFA! Woohoo!
It has been a long process but I see light at the end of the tunnel. My thesis work is a continued exploration of ends, prepper culture, and technology’s relationship to performance.
This project actually began five years ago when I began to develop this doomsday preparer character in Sherry Antoninni’s Word Theory and Practice class. I then turned it into a short play entitled Dreams of A Possible End that premiered at the Rhinoceros Theatre Festival in 2013.
For my thesis, I wanted to see if I could translate my performative material into something that would exist in a gallery. I decided to build a faraday cage (very popular in prepare communities) that would function as both a performance space and a gallery installation. Inside the cage would be an animatronic robot and a projection of myself that would function as the other performers.
Well, It’s been almost 8 months since I came up with the idea for the installation and I am very happy with the results. The show will be open until the 22nd of May, so if you’re in Chicago stop on by the Book and Paper Center at 1104 south Wabash and see the awesome work me and my cohort created.
