Why You Should Come to Open House
The Graduate Admissions Office is throwing an open house on Saturday, October 25th, and if you’re interested in the Creative Writing – Fiction program, you should come. Here’s why.
1) The department has changed, and you can ask Nami Mun, the Director of the MFA Program in Fiction, what incoming students can expect. A few current students will also be on hand who can answer any questions you have from a student standpoint.
2) Free food. Duh. This is a reason to go to anything.
3) Get a feel for Columbia. We are an urban campus in the middle of the city. If you’ve never been to one, you’ll see that your classes are in very tall buildings and there are certain flairs to us that other schools don’t have. We are also an art school, so the campus is teeming with creativity.
4) Meet new potential students. You can network with others that plan to attend. You might want to exchange information with them. Maybe you can help each other in the application process. Whatever the case might be, it’s always good to meet fellow writers.
5) Ask important questions. Many potential students have sent me emails about finances. I do not work for financial aid and don’t feel comfortable talking to others about their finances (or mine, for that matter). However, there will be staff present from Graduate Admissions, Student Financial Services, and many other offices and organizations on and off campus. It is going to be a very informative day.
So, I hope that you come on October 25th. We’d love to see you here! For more information, and to RSVP, visit the Graduate Open House website.
