New Master’s Programs!

New Master’s Programs!

The School of Graduate Studies has introduced four new, 1-year master’s programs: Civic Media, Entrepreneurship for Creatives, Interaction Design, and Strategic Communication.

  • The Civic Media MA, in the Department of Communication, started in Fall 2019. The degree teaches students how to meaningfully engage with local communities in order to design media-based solutions to address real civic needs.

  • The Entrepreneurship for Creatives MA, in the Business and Entrepreneurship department, will welcome its first cohort in Fall 2020 and will assist students in developing their business ideas into entrepreneurial endeavors.

  • The Interaction Design MA, run through the Interactive Arts and Media Department, also begins in Fall 2020. This degree offers students a chance to learn about digital design in one of the following concentrations: user experience, mobile interfaces, and immersive design.
  • The newest program, Strategic Communication MA, is hosted in the Communication Department and is currently accepting applications for its first cohort in Fall 2021.

These four new offerings differ from Columbia’s existing graduate programs due to their structure. As 1-year programs, they are tailored to allow students to work full time while also completing the degree. Columbia students and alumni are also eligible for the Columbia Rise, a scholarship offered to all prospective graduate students. Columbia Rise, created 2 years ago, assists incoming graduate students who also received their bachelors from Columbia College Chicago. If accepted, Columbia Rise provides students with four credit hours of tuition remission. Applications are open for Fall 2021 for all four of these programs.
