Artist Statement: “Through an embrace of craft processes such as weaving and embroidery along with painting and printmaking, I am able to create textured works that invite engagement with the audience. Some of the work I create has an underlying theme of cultural and ethnic identity. I explore my personal struggles with having a Puerto Rican background while feeling so distant from that aspect of my identity because of how physically far away I am from the island. I place an emphasis on movement in my imagery to allow for the viewer to appreciate the composition as well as the narratives within my work.”
