Shop Local – ShopColumbia Holiday Market
It happens every year like clockwork. That moment when you realize you need to buy someone a holiday gift and time is running out. You look to Amazon.com only to find a dead end, too many choices. You run to Target, but somehow nothing seems like a unique and personal option. Have no fear, as ShopColumbia’s annual Holiday Market is happening once again.
As listed on ShopColumbia’s Facebook page… “the 10th Annual Holiday Market, ShopColumbia, Columbia College Chicago’s art boutique is hosting a month-long showcase of one-of-a-kind items designed and created by Columbia artists. The Market will feature over 150 student, alumni, faculty and staff artists selling fine art, photography, paintings, clothing, fashion accessories, stationery, music, zines and more! Most items featured are sold exclusively at ShopColumbia and will not be found at other stores or boutiques.”
ShopColumbia is a store created specifically to give students a marketplace to sell student-produced work. In the nine years the store has been open, it has generated over $350,000 in profits for students alone. Their mission statement reads, “As an extension of the classroom, the Shop supports students by providing a professional environment to hone the process of presenting, marketing, and selling work to the public.”
If you are looking to shop local, then 619 S. Wabash is a nice option to check out. ShopColumbia offers custom and unique gift options as well as supporting artist and the local community. With the wide variety of products in the store, it’s hard to imagine that it doesn’t offer some great holiday ideas. The Holiday Market has always been a big success in the past and 2018 appears to be no different.
