The talents of alumni and faculty members from the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago are featured in the annual Chicago SummerDance Celebration on Saturday, August 26, at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, 201 E. Randolph in downtown Chicago.
The daylong event’s prime-time Mainstage Show features five professional dance companies, all making their Pritzker Pavilion stage debuts. Among the five troupes is BraveSoul Movement, directed by Dance Center faculty members Daniel “Bravemonk” Haywood and Kelsa “K-Soul” Robinson.
Also appearing is Red Clay Dance, an all-female troupe led by Dance Center alum Vershawn Sanders-Ward ’02, a graduate of the Dance Center’s BFA Program in Dance. Both companies have been commissioned to create new works for the occasion.
Dance Center alumni and students who will perform in the Mainstage Show include Lani Anderson, Keisha Bennett, Dedrick Gray, and Destine Young.
The Mainstage Show at the Chicago SummerDance Celebration begins at 6:30 PM, capping a day of workshops, contests, and performances that begins at noon. All events, including the Mainstage Show, are free. For a complete schedule of activities, click here.
