The Hive: A New Hub for Student Success
This semester, the college unveiled a vibrant new space that’s quickly becoming a hub for student creativity and collaboration. The Hive, located on the 3rd floor of the 618 building, offers a dynamic environment that fosters innovation, inspiration, and community.
Designed with students in mind, The Hive provides a range of amenities to support both individual and collaborative work. State-of-the-art technology, comfortable seating areas, and flexible spaces make it the perfect place for students to study, collaborate, and connect with peers.
Since its opening, The Hive has hosted a variety of exciting events and programs. In October, the space was used for a captivating Q&A session with author and creative director, Anthony Q. Roberts. Roberts is a Columbia Alum and recently published his book, “The Notorious GIG: A Creative Guide To Getting In Good As A Freelancer”. Students had the opportunity to learn from Roberts’ firsthand experiences in the industry and gain valuable insights into the world of freelancing and creative entrepreneurship.
Another highlight was the kickoff of the “Close Connections Series,” which featured a performance and Q&A session with Grammy-nominated producer Kosine. This event provided students with a unique opportunity to connect with industry professionals and gain inspiration for their own creative pursuits.
Additionally, The Hive has hosted a Peer Exchange (also in partnership with the “Close Connections Series”) organized by students enrolled in Professor of Instruction Beth Ryan’s Self-Management & Freelancing course. The inaugural Peer Exchange brought together industry professionals and students to discuss career paths, networking strategies, and industry trends. By providing opportunities for students to connect with experienced professionals, these events have empowered students to take control of their careers and reframe the stress behind networking.
In addition to these events, The Hive has also been a popular space for student organizations to host meetings, workshops, and social gatherings for student organizations. The flexible layout and amenities of the space make it ideal for a variety of activities, from casual study sessions to formal presentations.
By providing students with access to cutting-edge technology, inspiring speakers, and a supportive environment, The Hive is empowering the next generation of creative leaders. This innovative space is a testament to Columbia College Chicago’s commitment to providing students with the resources and opportunities the 618 building has for student success.
