A Semester in L.A. with Daniel Aharoni
Columbia College Chicago’s Semester in L.A. program puts students in the heart of Hollywood where they can study, work, and live while immersing themselves in everything that Los Angeles has to offer. This study-away experience specifically focuses on providing students with opportunities to work in the media and entertainment industries, while exploring their career interests through internships. Daniel Aharoni, a Music Business major, is attending SiLA in the spring, and we spoke to him about his thoughts and hopes for the upcoming experience.
What made you want to sign up for the Semester in L.A. program?
Ever since I was a kid I knew I would end up in California. Now that I’m back in school and the Semester in L.A. program was presented to me, not only can I finally live in California, I can combine my two passions, music and film. Los Angeles is the hub for these two industries, and I cannot think of a better place to be to combine my interests.
Is there a specific industry you’re hoping to gain experience in?
I am a Music Business student trying to utilize my musical and creative skills. One area of the music business I am interested in is music supervision/composition for film. I firmly believe that without great and fitting music, the film industry would lack a crucial aspect that ties everything together to make something truly special.
How are you preparing for this semester away?
I have been preparing for this by researching different companies that specialize in this field. Another way I have been preparing is by coming to the understanding that to get where you want to be, no matter how intimidating, you need to take that next step.
Which aspect of the program are you most excited about? And how do you see it helping you in your career?
I am excited to be around like-minded individuals who I can bounce ideas back and forth with. Most of all, I am looking forward to the internship, so I can work with industry professionals and gain more experience and knowledge while bringing my own set of skills to the table.
