If you’re looking for a practicum course that gives experience managing live entertainment, then this would be the perfect fit for you. The Events Management: Practicum course has recently collaborated with Block 37, a venue that offers a diverse shopping experience for locals and tourists. This course is taught by assistant professor Joseph Bogdan.

Block 37 is a one-stop-shop that has direct access to Chicago’s Pedway as well as the CTA Red Line and Blue Line. The venue wants people to stop and enjoy live events that take place to enhance their experience of the vicinity. The venue approached the class last summer, and agreed to partner with the college to produce the OBY Show @ Block 37.  OBY is described as a big band collective project that can have up to 16 musicians and singers playing on stage at any given time.

During the course, students have created components such as an operating budget and marketing plan. Students also sign the talent that performs and works all the operations that take place before and during the show.

If you’re interested in getting real life, hands-on experience, the Events Management: Practicum course will have 5 sections spring semester, with one being the OBY Show @ Block 37. Other course sections include: two Manifest courses, one Dance course, and one Music course.
