PAID OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD POST-LECTURE BREAKOUT SESSION

The Interdisciplinary Arts Department received a Critical Encounters grant to support student engagement for our fall Visiting Artist lecture by Zoe Beloff on Monday, September 17 at 6pm. In addition to a pre-lecture reception, this grant is supporting a post-lecture break out discussion group, which will allow a group of students to expand conversationally on topics from the talk, which will largely focus on a recent project called Days of the Commune: A Work in Progress. Beloff gathered a group each weekend in Zuccotti Park and other public spaces from March through May, 2012 to work on a public performance of The Days of the Commune, a play written by Bertol Brecht in 1948-49. This is all documented on her website with video, and she is turning the project into an installation and film.

Paid Opportunity / Qualifications:
We are seeking a graduate student to lead this discussion group, which will last for about 45 minutes after the lecture. A successful candidate should be interested in topics related to: arts and activism, Brecht, theater, performance art, public art, video/installation/new media, and/or the Occupy movement. He/she should become familiar with Beloff’s work in preparation for the session. Teaching experience a plus, but not required. Participants will sign up in advance, so the hired discussion group leader will have the opportunity to communicate topic questions or readings in the days prior.

Compensation:
The student will be paid a $125 honorarium
