Columbia College Chicago alumnus Brad Kemp (BMus ’12), who graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Columbia College Chicago Music Department‘s Bachelor of Music in Composition program and also took courses in the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department‘s Musical Theatre program, has composed the score for a new musical opening June 9 at Theatre Wit, located at 1229 W. Belmont, in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood: Tapped, presented by Fourth Story Productions.

The show, expanded following its successful 2015 tryout at MCL Chicago, concerns an NSA agent who falls in love with the guy she’s supposed to spy on: a bumbling whistleblower out to expose the NSA’s domestic surveillance program. Here’s a promotional video for the production, which runs through July 3.

Trapped was recently featured in an article on the theatre website Buzz On Stage.

Kemp is also the composer of Not as Advertised, presented by pH Productions, which runs Saturday nights through July 17 at the pH Comedy Theatre, 1515 W. Berwyn, in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. Described as “a rock & roll-mantic musical comedy,” Not as Advertised is the story of two young Chicagoans hired as a writing team at a major advertising agency, whose personal and professional relationship makes sparks fly. Besides composing, Kemp also works as a music producer and operates his own studio, BK Studios, which offers low rates for industry-standard studio recording packages as well as voiceover demos, original composition, mixing, mastering, and original beats.
