Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni Stephen Walker (BA ’95) and Rudy Galvan are featured in David Mamet‘s American Buffalo, running January 28-March 6 at Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company, located at 735 W. Sheridan, Chicago.

The production’s lights are designed by Claire Sangster (BA ’12), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre Design.

Faculty member David Woolley, coordinator of the Theatre Department’s stage combat minor, is the show’s fight choreographer.

And alumnus Jake Fruend (BA ’13), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s directing program, designed the show’s poster.

Mamet’s 1975 comedy-drama concerns three small-time crooks hatching an ill-conceived plot to steal a valuable antique coin — a buffalo-head nickel. This modern classic by one of American theatre’s finest playwrights uses the conniving among these low-life hoods as a microcosm of American business ethics. Coincidentally, Mamet taught at the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department around the time he wrote this play, which helped launch him to an international career as a writer-director.

Walker, a graduate of the Columbia College Theatre Department’s directing program, plays Teach, one of the conspirators; Galvan plays Teach’s young protege, Bobby.
