Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni are in the cast of The Virginian: A Horseman of the Plains, a new stage adaptation of the classic novel. The show runs January 7 through February 20 at City Lit Theatre, located at 1020 W. Bryn Mawr in Chicago’s Edgewater/Andersonville Theatre District.
The show’s cast includes David Fink ’07, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, and Tony DiPisa ’07, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Musical Theatre program.
Also in the cast is Columbia College Chicago Communication Department faculty member Marssie Mencotti. The production isdirected by former Theatre Department faculty member Terry McCabe, artistic director of City Lit Theatre.
Owen Wister’s novel The Virginian, published in 1902, is said to have established the Western genre of narrative fiction and the cowboy ideal as an American icon. Its climactic gun duel is the first “showdown” in fiction and the novel has the first known use of the phrase “When you call me that, smile!”
