Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni and faculty are joining forces to bring the world premiere of The Cheats, by Hamish Linklater, to the stage of Steep Theatre, one of Chicago’s finest Off-Loop companies, this fall.
Joanie Schultz (BA ’00), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing Program, is staging the production. Her assistant director is Mike Mroch (BFA ’11), general manager of Strawdog Theatre and also a graduate of the Theatre Department’s directing program.
The cast includes Kendra Thulin, a teacher in the Theatre Department’s acting program. Theatre Department design program teacher Chelsea Warren is the show’s set designer. Both Schultz and Thulin are Steep ensemble members. Thulin is also the dialect coach for Miss Buncle’s Book, running through November 1 at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood, in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.
The Cheats, set on a Halloween morning, is described as “a play about your marriage, and how it can get f*cked when you forget to lock the front door.”
The Cheats previews September 26-30 and opens October 1 for a run through November 7 at Steep Theatre, 1115 W. Berwyn, in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. For tickets and performance schedule, click here or call 866-811-4111.
