Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni, faculty, and students are bringing British playwright Jim Cartwright’s The Rise and Fall of Little Voice to the stage of Chicago’s Theater Wit August 14-September 5.
Presented by the No Stakes Theater Project, the show is directed by Erin Shea Brady, a graduate of Columbia’s Theatre Directing Program.
Set in a small factory town in Northern England, circa 1990, the play features Scarlet Sheppard, a graduate of Columbia’s BA Program in Acting, as “Little Voice,” a cripplingly shy girl with an uncanny ability to imitate great singers like Judy Garland and Edith Piaf. Also in the cast are Columbia faculty members Will Casey and Marssie Mencotti and Columbia student Johnathan Wallace.
Columbia alumni on the creative team include set designer Grant Sabin and costume designer Moriah Turner (graduates of Columbia’s BFA Program in Theatre Design), prop designer Paul Deziel (a graduate of Columbia’s BA program in technical theatre), choreographer Mollyanne Nunn (a graduate of Columbia’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance), assistant director Emilie Modaff (a graduate of the Acting BA program), and dramaturg Ian Michael James (a graduate of the Acting BA program with a minor in playwriting). Anna Micale, a student in the Theatre Department’s BA program in technical theatre, is stage manager. Columbia theatre faculty John McFarland and Susan Gosdick are the violence director and dialect coach, respectively.
