Pearl Cleage’s comedy, receiving its Chicago premiere, is set in 1964 Montgomery, Alabama, where the Nacirema Society, an elite social club for wealthy African-American women, prepares for its annual introduction of six elegant debutantes to a world of prosperity, privilege, and social responsibility. The production is part of a city-wide festival of Cleage’s work taking place in Chicago this fall.
