Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Darin Toonder ’97, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, is a recurring guest star on the new series Average Joe, which premieres Monday, June 26, on BET+. The show is described as a dark comedy about a Philadelphia plumber who discovers that his late father stole millions of dollars from Russian mobsters – who want their money back, or else.
Toonder, who is based in Los Angeles, also has a recurring role on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital, playing Dr. Damon Montague. Other recent TV acting credits include roles on ABC’s crime drama Will Trent, Showtime’s The First Lady, Netflix’s Ozark, and the FX mini-series Class of ’09. Upcoming credits include the second season of Starz’s Minx, which begins July 21, as well as the feature film Lilly, a fact-based suspense drama that stars Patricia Clarkson as activist Lilly Ledbetter.
In addition to his acting work, Toonder is a coach with Career ACTivate, an agency that gives actors the business know-how to get more auditions, book better work, and find representation. Toonder notes on his Career ACTivate coaching bio: “In the past 20 months, I have booked 13 television shows and 2 feature films. . . . How did I get these victories? Being bold as hell, networking, career coaching and making a shit ton of mistakes. Mistakes that have been wonderful lessons.” For more information on Toonder’s coaching services, click here – or watch the video below:
