Congratulations to the Columbia College Chicago alumni, students, and faculty who have been nominated for 2020 Black Theatre Alliance Awards. The nominees were announced August 7, 2020. Among those nominated are:

Aaron Reese Boseman

Aaron Reese Boseman ‘12, a graduate of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing program: nominated for the Lloyd Richards Award for Best Direction of a Play for his staging of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin In The Sun (Invictus Theatre Company);

Michael Adkins

Michael Adkins, a current student in the Columbia College Chicago Business and Entrepreneurship Department‘s BA Program in Music Business Management: nominated for the Bill Bojangles Robinson Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for You Can’t Fake the Funk: A Journey Through Funk Music (Black Ensemble Theater);

Jermaine Hill

Columbia College faculty member Jermaine Hill, coordinator of the Theatre Department’s Musical Theatre Program: nominated twice for the Duke Ellington Award for Best Musical Direction, for The Color Purple (Drury Lane Theatre) and Sophisticated Ladies (Porchlight Music Theatre);

Robert Reddrick

Jeffrey Levin

Columbia College alum Jeffrey Levin ’10, a graduate of the Columbia College Music Department‘s BA Program in Music with a Composition Concentration — nominated for the Mike Sargent Award for Best Sound Design for Kill Move Paradise (TimeLine Theatre Company).

Vincent Williams

“In the midst of extremely difficult times [the Black Theatre Alliance Awards] is most proud to announce BTAA nominees for productions presented between August 1, 2019 and July 31, 2020,” said Columbia College Chicago alumnus Vincent Williams ’03, a graduate of the BA Program in Performing Arts Management from what is now the Columbia College Chicago Business and Entrepreneurship Department, who established the BTAA in 1995 to honor African Americans who achieve excellence in theatre, dance, and all areas of the performing arts in the Chicagoland area. “In an extremely difficult season excellence in the performing arts was supreme.” The date and location of the 2020 BTAA celebration will be announced at a later date.
