Otherworld Theatre Company, an ensemble founded and led by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni, presents A Taste of Man Flesh: A Parody About a Fellowship August 15 through 24. The show runs at Otherworld Theatre’s space at 3914 N. Clark in Chicago. Tickets are “pay what you can.” For tickets, click here.
One of Otherworld Theatre Company’s specialties is staging nerd-themed parodies, bringing along both hearty laughs and a genuine celebration for the fandom. In this “Lord of the Rings” parody,
the fate of Middle Earth is placed in the tiny, hairy hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins after he inherits the One Ring to rule them all. Join Frodo and the entire Fellowship on a bizarre, epic journey to bring the One Ring back to the fires of Mount Doom. Will he get there by the end of the show? Probably not. But will there be plenty of adventures, meme-worthy moments and battles along the way? You know it, baby!
Columbia College alumni involved in the production include cast members Mike Danovich ’11 and Grace Gimpel ’12, both graduates of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre, and sound designer Tiffany Keane Schaefer ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing program. Schaefer, who founded Otherworld in 2012, is also the company’s artistic director. The company’s managing director is Columbia alum Katie Ruppert ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Comedy Writing and Performance.
