Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Danielle Jackman ’15, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre with a Minor in Dance from the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, is in the cast of the Glimmerglass Festival‘s summer 2019 production of the classic musical Show Boat, running July 6 through August 24. Performances take place at the Alice Busch Opera Theater on Otsego Lake just north of Cooperstown, New York.
Written in 1927 by composer Jerome Kern and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II, Show Boat was the first Broadway musical to seriously and sympathetically depict interracial marriage. It was also the first musical to integrate black and white ensemble performers on stage. It is generally considered to be the first great book musical in American theatre.
Jackman is also in the cast of Glimmerglass Festival’s production of Verdi’s classic opera La Traviata, running in repertory with Show Boat from July 7 through August 24. Founded in 1975, Glimmerglass is the second-largest summer festival of opera and musical theatre in the United States.
