Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumnus A.C. Smith ’86, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre, is featured in a new production of August Wilson’s drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, running February 6 through March 17 at Writers Theatre, located at 325 Tudor Court in the Chicago suburb of Glencoe. Smith plays Slow Drag, a jazz musician playing in a 1920s recording session by blues singer Gertrude “Ma” Rainey. Smith is experienced in the work of the late playwright August Wilson, having won the Joseph Jefferson Award, Chicago’s top theatrical prize, for his lead performance in Court Theatre’s production of Wilson’s Fences. The Writers Theatre production’s intimacy director is former Columbia College Theatre Department student Sasha Smith. For tickets, click here.
