Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alums are on the production team for Empty Threats, presented by the Neo-Futurists theatre company June 7 through July 14. The show’s scenic designer is Columbia College alum Grant Sabin ’05, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Design program and now a faculty member in that program. The show’s production manager is alum Kate Hardiman ’13, a graduate of Columbia College’s Theatre Directing program. The show’s lighting designer, John Kelly, is a former Columbia College Theatre Department student. This metatheatrical comedy by writer-performer Lily Mooney draws on Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein and David Mamet’s controversial play Oleanna to satirize power dynamics in contemporary theatre and in modern life. The show begins with a fictional premise: Victor, a college professor, prepares to leave his office at the end of a long day. Soon the play’s author, a “real person,” barges in and stages an interrogation, forcing Victor to defend his fictional existence. For tickets, call 773-275-5255 or click here.
