Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumnus Sean Patrick Leonard ’97, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, is in the cast of A Blue Island in the Red Sea, a new devised theatre piece running April 12-May 20 in the Pentagon space at Collaboraction Studios, located in the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee, in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The work was created through open workshops in collaboration with a team of community members, designers, and actors, including Leonard.
This multimedia, metatheatrical docudrama takes audiences on a whirlwind journey from the time before the city of Chicago was founded through the formation of the segregated city we know today, using theatre to encourage an honest conversation about critical issues surrounding race to cultivate truth and transformation. The show’s fight director is Columbia College faculty member David Woolley, coordinator of the Theatre Department’s Minor in Stage Combat program. And Columbia College alumnus Chas Z. Mathieu ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Design BA program, is assistant scenic designer.
