Alumni, students, and faculty members of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department are in the cast and creative team of 9 to 5 the Musical, presented April 7-May 20 by Firebrand Theatre at the Den Theatre, 1331 N. Milwaukee, in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
The cast includes Tyler Symonè, a senior in the Columbia College Theatre Department‘s pre-professional BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance. The show’s musical director and lighting designer, Andra Velis Simon and Heather Gilbert respectively, are Columbia College Theatre Department faculty members. Columbia College alum J.C. Widman ’14, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Technical Theatre, is the stage manager. And the show’s director, Harmony France, is a former student at the Theatre Department. France is also co-founder and artistic director of Firebrand Theatre, a musical theatre company “committed to employing and empowering women by expanding their opportunities on and off the stage.”
Based on the 1980 movie, 9 to 5 the Musical has songs by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. The show concerns three women who take control of the office where they work.
