Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni and student talent is featured in the professional Chicago premiere of Lysistrata Jones, running October 20-November 19 at Unity Lutheran Church, 1212 W. Balmoral, in Chicago’s Edgewater Theatre District. Presented by the Refuge Theatre Project, Douglas Carter Beane and Lewis Flinn’s 2011 Broadway musical takes the premise of the ancient Greek comedy Lysistrata — in which the women of Athens refuse to have sex with their husbands and lovers until the long-lasting Peloponnesian War is finally ended – and updates it to the present at an American college, where cheerleader Lysistrata Jones convinces the girls at fictional Athens University to withhold sexual favors until the school’s basketball team ends its 30-year losing streak.
The show’s ensemble includes Columbia College alum Mollyanne Nunn ’14, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, and current Musical Theatre Performance BFA student Brandy Miller. The show’s musical director, Annabelle Revak, is a student in the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre. And Columbia alumnus Evan Frank ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre Design, is the show’s set designer.
