Otherworld Theatre Company, an ensemble founded and led by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni, presents the “cerebral science fiction adventure” Speed of Light October 6-21 at the Berger Park Coach House, 6205 N. Sheridan, in Chicago’s Edgewater Theatre District. Bella Poynton’s play, set on the planet of Nerth, concerns a physicist racing against time to unlock the secret of light speed travel while a horde of alien invaders threatens to destroy life on the planet. Speed of Light takes a fantastical look at the infinite possibilities of the human mind and the finite potential of a flawed civilization.
The show’s production team includes Columbia College Theatre Department alumni Tiffany Keane Schaefer ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing Program, and Kai Young ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting. Schaefer, who founded Otherworld in 2012 as a company devoted to science fiction and fantasy storytelling, is the show’s sound designer; Young is the production’s fight director.
