Faculty members and alumni of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department are on the design and production team of the Chicago-area premiere of The Legend of Georgia McBride, running Sept. 14-Oct. 22 at Northlight Theatre in the Chicago suburb of Skokie.
Jacqueline Penrod, associate chair and artistic director of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department, is co-designing the Northlight production’s set with her husband, Theatre Department faculty member Richard Penrod. Columbia alumnus Max Colvill ’16, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Theatre Directing, is an assistant director on the show, and alumna Selma Muminovic ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Theatre Design, is running the follow spot.
The 2014 comedy by Matthew Lopez concerns a young Elvis Presley impersonator who finds success as a lip-syncing female impersonator after the Florida nightclub where he’s been performing becomes a drag bar. The play has previously been produced off-Broadway and in Los Angeles, Denver, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
