Performance companies led by alumni of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department and the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago are participating in “An Evening with the Edgewater Theatre District” on Thursday, August 3, at 7 PM. This benefit for the Edgewater Theatre District — a networking organization of performance companies located in Chicago’s artistically thriving, culturally diverse Edgewater neighborhood on the north lakefront between Foster and Devon avenues — will feature performances by Otherworld Theatre Company, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, Stockyards Theatre Project, and pH Comedy Theatre.
Otherworld, a company devoted to science-fiction and fantasy genre theatrical storytelling, is led by founder/artistic director Tiffany Keane Schaefer ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Directing Program.
Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble’s artistic director is Dance Center of Columbia College alum Sara Maslanka ’13, a graduate of the Dance Center’s Dance BA program. In addition, Stockyards Theatre Project’s artistic director, Francesca Peppiatt, is a former Columbia College Chicago Office of Development and Alumni Relations staffer.
Tickets are only $10 in advance or $15 at the door for table seating at Uncommon Ground coffeehouse, 1401 W. Devon, Chicago. (Dinner is available, but the admission price does not include dinner.) For tickets, click here. To reserve a table at Uncommon Ground, click here.
The Edgewater Theatre District represents more than 15 performance companies that embody the best of Chicago’s nationally acclaimed storefront theatre scene — the kind of theatre where you’ll experience knock-your-socks off acting and innovative, jaw-dropping productions from intimate 50- to 100-seat theatres. The Edgewater neighborhood is a hotbed for the kind of theatre that’s put Chicago on the map. Many Edgewater-affiliated companies have strong ties to Columbia College Chicago, including Babes With Blades, City Lit Theatre, Raven Theatre, the Neo-Futurists, Steep Theatre, and the No Stakes Theatre Project.
