Steep Theatre, whose ensemble includes several Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni and teachers, is presenting the U.S. premiere of British playwright Alistair McDowall’s Brilliant Adventures. The play–about a man who has invented a device that could change the world–is described as “a wildly entertaining sci-fi thriller with more than a touch of dark comedy.” The production marks not only the U.S. premiere of the play, but the first American production of anything by McDowall, who is quickly becoming one of the hottest playwrights in the U.K.
The show’s production team includes assistant director Maggie Rogers, a 2014 graduate of the Columbia College Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Theatre Directing, and dialect coach Kendra Thulin, a faculty member in the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting. Other Columbia College Theatre Department artists in the Steep ensemble include alumni Caroline Neff and Joanie Schultz (also a faculty member) and faculty member Jonathan Berry.
Brilliant Adventures runs through August 15 at Steep Theatre, 1115 W. Berwyn, in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. For tickets, call 866-811-4111 or click here.
