Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni are in the cast and production team of The Hypocrites‘ remount of its acclaimed 2014 production All Our Tragic, running June 20-August 9 at the Den Theatre, 1329 N. Milwaukee, in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. All Our Tragic got rave reviews and full houses in its original run in summer of 2014 and is being remounted this summer with most of the original cast members.
Columbia Theatre alumni in the ensemble include Ryan Bourque, Ann Delaney, Lindsey Gavel, and Maximillian Lapine; also in the cast is current student Lauren Vogel. Columbia alumni on the show’s production team include Ryan Bourque (violence design), Jon Beal (blood and gore design), and John Kelly (master electrician). The production is adapted and directed by Hypocrites founder/artistic director Sean Graney, a former Columbia College Theatre faculty member.
This 12-hour theatrical event–nine hours of performed material and three hours for snack and meal time, which is included in the price of admission–combines all 32 surviving Greek tragedies into a single epic narrative, creating a modern Festival of Dionysus. These ancient Greek festivals were designed to encourage civic conversation about contemporary topics by incorporating art, politics, and food.
