Today, a number of websites (including Wikipedia) are going “dark” for 24 hours in protest of two upcoming Congressional bills, the “Stop Online Privacy Act” (SOPA) and “Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011” (PIPA).
The American Library Association (ALA) is strongly opposed to both bills due to the potential threat to first amendment free speech rights, intellectual freedom and privacy rights. Find out about ALA’s position and more information on both SOPA and PIPA here.
If you are having trouble with finding information as a result of the blackout, be sure to contact Ask A Librarian–we are here to help!
