March Chicago Arts District Second Fridays Features New Performative Installations

As co-owner of Solid Ground Studio and Artistic Director of its in-residence dance company MegLouiseDance, Megan Pitcher is constantly in motion. In addition to programming the studio schedule, teaching, performing, and working on her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media, Pitcher, along with her Solid Ground co-director DeAllen Young, are key participants in the Chicago Arts District’s 2nd Fridays. Located right near the 2nd Fridays information center at 1821 S. Halsted Street, Solid Ground Studio is for many visitors the de facto starting point of this monthly Pilsen arts event.

On the evening of March 6, Solid Ground Studio will be presenting Moving Forward, the next installment in their series of “See and Activate” performative installations. Pitcher will be presenting her new work Interface, a non-static work that she describes as “an interactive approach to fine art.”

“In my piece, action painting gets a twist. Your body is key in this human to human interactive painting party,” says Pitcher. Guests are invited to come observe, get involved, and be a part of the work, from 6:00–7:00 p.m.

In addition to Interface, Solid Ground will also be presenting a new work by thesis-year InterArts MFA Alexa J. Rittichier. Her seven-person piece, called Collecting Ourselves: Bone Stacking, was recently accepted into the 19th Annual Performance Studies International Conference, being held in Stanford, CA this coming June. Rittichier began developing the work in November of 2012, and the performance at Solid Ground Studio on March 6 is one of a series of preview and fund-raising events scheduled this spring in preparation for the ensemble’s trip out west.

Collecting Ourselves: Bone Stacking will be presented two times during the March 6 2nd Friday, at 8:00 p.m. and again at 9:00 p.m. There will be an opportunity for Q+A with the artists between performances and activations during the course of the evening.
